Frequently Asked Questions
|
How do I know if my child is ready for preschool?
Typically, children are ready for a preschool setting when they are 3 years of age and potty
trained. Moderate separation anxiety is perfectly normal (for both child and parent).
Is Preschool necessary?
Most educators and psychologists today agree that the single most important period in the
development of a person's intelligence occurs between birth and age five. A child's mind is
extremely absorbent and his/her curiosity is at a peak during these early years. When
properly nourished and stimulated, the child's mind forms patterns for learning that serve
her/him well throughout his life.
Which preschool is right for my child?
Children should feel safe, comfortable, and loved in preschool. A well balanced curriculum
is essential, offering a combination of academic learning, fine motor skills, gross motor
skills, social and emotional development, sensory integration, and creative imaginative play.
You should feel welcome by the staff and comfortable asking questions or voicing concerns.
Do your research when choosing a preschool program and trust your instincts.
My child has developmental delays and/or may have special needs. I've been referred to
Gymstars because of its gross motor foundation. Is this a good fit?
Gymstars does not offer a special needs environment. We are a community preschool with
a 10-1 ratio. While this is a small class size, some children need more than we can offer.
We have a variety of resources available if you would like information. If you are unsure
about your child's placement in a community preschool, please set up a meeting with us
prior to enrolling in Gymstars Preschool.
Do you offer field trips?
Yes! We go on 2-3 field trips during the year where we meet as a school at a specific
location (Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, etc) and parents are responsible for their own children.
Gymstars Preschool does not transport students. This is a great way to meet or visit with
other Gymstar families.
I don't see a playground outside. Will my child get enough gross motor activity?
Our program is all about movement! Our philosophy is that children learn at an accelerated
rate when using their mind AND bodies. Every preschool class participates in a structured
30 minute Tumbling class each day where they will do front rolls, back rolls, handstands,
balance beams, jumping activities, stretching, dancing, etc. In addition, we have our
Cardio-Stars room where the students get to play group activity games such as parachutes,
bean bags, hula hoops, yoga, and relay games.
